Our final course project is quickly approaching, and you are tasked
with conducting no less than five field site observations where you
collect extensive notes and build rapport with members of the community
you are investigating.
You must list two communities
you are interested in researching for your project. The community you
choose should NOT be a community you are already a part of. College is a
place where you are supposed to get diverse experiences, and this
project calls you to step outside and away from communities you are
familiar with. In past terms I've had students explore congregations of
churches, tattoo parlors, restaurants, Paul Mitchell's school of Hair
Design and Cosmetology, and many more.
You must pick at
least two communities because one may not pan out. Consider how
difficult it will be to access a particular community and also consider
your time constraints (you have about a month to gather all of your
data).
List at least two communities you are interested
in investigating. Give some background on the communities and explain
why you are interested in researching them. You will eventually pick one of these communities to pursue for your final paper. For now, I want you to list two just in case one doesn't pan out.
The two areas that I am interested in researching are the Real Estate industry and the Spa and Skin Care industry.
ReplyDeleteI have always had an interest in Spa and Skincare. I have had basic treatments myself and I always thought it would be a great way to help people feel good about the way they look. I have worked in an area where aesthetics are important so I understand the appeal of wanting to make people feel good. Personally I will need some extensive treatment and I haven’t inquired about what the treatments will entail. This is the perfect way for me to gather information.
I’m also very interested in the Real Estate industry. With returning to school I am exploring what direction my education will help me. I have wondered if real estate would be a good fit for me. Researching and shadowing a real estate agent will help me determine if real estate is an area in which I would want to earn a living.
My first community that I would like to dig on is the mosque. I just noticed that there is one in Orlando while I was searching. I am not religious, but since I've already seen many mosque in my country, I decided to go research about it. Also, because I know a little about mosques, it would be easier for me to understand and write.
ReplyDeleteMy second options would be a persian restaurant called Ali Baba. I know its owner, so it would be easier for me to work with him, and of course I will have more information.
The two community's I picked where sports medicine and child care. My reason for picking these is because they both catch my attention since i was a sophomore in high school.
ReplyDeleteMy first pick is sports medicine because i truly find the anatomy of the body fascinating. In high school I would watch our athletic trainers help athletes and all the different techniques that were being used on the students. I love that with knowing medical things it can help a person out . I know basic things when it comes to treating wounds but i would love to learn more and broaden my knowledge on the medical field.
My second choice was a child care facility . Growing up I've always had an interest in babies. In my high school they had a program where if you took child care you had the opportunity to work hand on with actual babies. Knowing that we had this program was great because it gives you a real inside look if you had to work with kids on a day to day bases. You can never learn to much about kids because everyday there is always something new.
I will be investigating a small tattoo parlor near university road and a church on 426.
ReplyDeleteThe tattoo parlor I will checkout is near The Comic Shop, a store I frequent. The art they put on display has always caught me. This will be as good a reason as any to ask some question with some real structure behind them.
MY second location is a small church or temple on 426. While I have no interest in following any particular god or goddess, I enjoy learning about new things, and seeing as I have passed by this building many times on my way to work, I have been curious as to what they practice there.
My first location I would like to investigate would be Seminole County's SPCA. I am most interested in this community because I love animals, and would one day love to either volunteer there and/or adopt a cat. I also find that I would love to help out a community who rescue animals, which is essentially what the SPCA is all about.
ReplyDeleteThe second community I would love to investigate would be Downtown Disney. This is because I really really enjoy going to Disney parks. There's a ton of things you can do, and a lot of different people from around the world who visit there. There is a lot of construction and changes going on around Downtown Disney so I think it'd be interesting to observe how those changes will affect the overall atomsphere of that community.
